A document sent to Welwyn Hatfield Council by fire service chiefs urged planners to consider allowing the two fire stations to be converted into homes.
Plans submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Council show the company?s current store, at Oldings Corner, could be subdivided into two separate units. Marks and Spencer Simply Food is named to take one half, and it is proposed that the other will be used by a ?home improvements retailer?.

Welwyn Parish Council is trying to raise support to change the name of Welwyn North Station to Digswell to stop passengers getting confused. When the station was first built in 1850 it was named Welwyn because that was the nearest settlement.
Crews arrived in the town centre earlier today (Tuesday) setting up for the planned scenes. Roads in Howardsgate, Fretherne Road, Stonehills and Wigmores North have all been closed to traffic to help the crews and will remain closed until 8am tomorrow morning.
Welwyn Hatfield Council have placed advance warning signs of closures around Howardsgate and adjoining roads, but remain tight-lipped over the reason.
The first was near the A414 recycling centre in Welwyn Garden City where rubbish had been set alight. The second saw a skip on fire in Travellers Lane, Hatfield.
